Quick answer

Start by identifying where the problem occurs: the client will not launch, you cannot reconnect to a match, or the game runs but latency is high. Check Riot’s service status for your region first. If there is an ongoing incident, retry after it is resolved rather than changing several settings at once.

This guide covers League of Legends on PC, not Wild Rift. Keep the exact error code and the time it appeared; a Vanguard error, a client crash and a network disconnect do not have the same fix.

Client will not open or update

  1. Check Riot’s status page, then restart the Riot Client and your computer. Note whether the failure happens before login, during an update or after selecting a champion.
  2. Read any specific error message and use the matching Riot support article. For Vanguard errors, follow Riot’s instructions for that code; do not disable or bypass the anti-cheat to force the game to start.
  3. If the Riot Client opens, sign in, select the profile icon at the upper right, then Settings → League of Legends → Repair and follow the prompts. If it cannot open or repair fails, keep the error and client logs for support instead of repeatedly reinstalling.

Disconnected or stuck reconnecting

First check whether other websites or devices on your network also lose connection. If they do, restart the network equipment when convenient and reconnect the computer. If only the game is affected, check Riot’s regional status and note the time and match phase.

Riot recommends trying an Ethernet connection when possible because wireless interference can cause lag or packet loss. If you use a VPN or proxy, test without it if your network permits. Change one condition at a time and compare; a working website alone does not prove the game connection is stable.

High ping versus low frame rate

Ping measures the network round trip to the server. High or unstable ping can cause delayed actions or characters snapping back. Low frame rate instead makes the picture look choppy even when network latency is normal. Check the in-game indicators and note which value changes when the problem occurs; avoid changing graphics settings to solve a connection problem or network settings to solve low frame rate.

If the issue persists, Riot’s support guidance provides the Riot Repair Tool for collecting relevant logs. Submit a support request with your region, approximate time, exact error, what you tested and the requested logs. Do not attach passwords or verification codes.
