On Summoner's Rift 5v5, place a ward to answer a specific question: “Can the enemy jungler approach this route?” or “Can we see the objective entrance?” A ward is useful only while it covers a relevant route and you can use the information.

Three tools, different jobs
| Tool | What it does | When to use it | |---|---| | Stealth Ward trinket | Places temporary vision that becomes hidden after placement. | Watch an approach while laning or preparing to move. | | Control Ward | Provides visible vision and reveals or disables certain enemy wards; enemies can attack it. | Cover a route your team can defend, such as an objective entrance. | | Oracle Lens | Scans around you to help find enemy vision. | Sweep a route with teammates before moving through it. |
These are not interchangeable: a Control Ward is visible and does not reveal every kind of invisible champion. Store costs, slots and availability can change by patch or role; read the current item descriptions. Support quest equipment may provide additional wards under its current rules.
A player can have only one Control Ward placed at a time; placing another replaces the previous one. Oracle Lens and the Stealth Ward trinket share the trinket slot, so switching to Lens means that slot no longer places the yellow ward. (source、source)
A safe warding routine
- Before leaving lane, check the minimap: where were enemies last seen, and can a teammate accompany you? Don't walk alone into unlit jungle when opponents are missing.
- Choose one nearby entrance the enemy might use. Place vision from a safe position, ideally when you have lane priority or a teammate nearby.
- Look at the minimap after placing it. If the ward reveals danger, retreat or ping; a ward does not make a dangerous fight safe.
- Before an objective, sweep or check a route with your team. If you reveal an enemy ward, clear it only when you have time and cover; leaving alive is more valuable than a risky ward kill.
If an enemy repeatedly destroys your Control Ward, move it to a spot your team can protect instead of replacing it in the same exposed bush. Review each ward by asking what decision it enabled, not just how many you placed.
