Quick answer

If you keep missing minions, practise with one champion before worrying about a perfect score. Watch the minion’s health, allow allied minions to damage it, and deliver the killing hit yourself. If the enemy can punish you for stepping forward, let that minion go: staying alive keeps you in lane for the next wave.

This drill is for a farming role on PC Summoner’s Rift. Supports normally leave most lane minions to their partner. Some modes have different gold rules.

Start without an opponent

  1. Open the Practice Tool, choose your usual champion and go to your intended lane. Use your normal starting items so the attack damage feels like a real opening.
  2. Let both minion waves meet. Do not keep attacking the same target: watch its health and use an attack when you expect it to kill. For a ranged champion, account for the time the projectile takes to arrive.
  3. Repeat for several waves. When you miss, identify why: attacked too early, waited too long while allied minions hit it, or began the attack too far away. Change that one thing next wave.
  4. If the game displays a last-hit indicator, use it to learn the timing, but still watch other minions: two can become low at once. In that case, prepare one earlier with an attack or use an ability if it is safe and available.

If no minions appear, check that the Practice Tool’s minion-spawn toggle has not been disabled. Its location and shortcut can depend on your controls; use the current tool panel. (source)

Add lane pressure

Try the same champion in a match against AI. Before walking up to a low-health minion, glance at the opposing champion. If they are in range with an ability ready, wait, move to the side or give up that minion. Take the last hit when they are occupied or too far away to punish you.

If your wave is approaching the enemy tower, do not chase every minion under it. Step back, let the next waves meet, and practise where you have room to retreat. Near your own tower, watch which minion the tower attacks and adjust your timing rather than relying on a fixed number of tower shots for every champion and situation.

Compare your own result over several attempts with the same champion and starting items. Once the attack timing feels reliable, add the opponent back in; the goal is gold and enough health to stay in lane.
