For an update failure, check the store, connection and storage first. For missing progress, check the login method and whether the old account was bound. These are separate problems.
Update or download fails
- Open your device’s official app store and check the game’s current update and any error message. Make sure the device has enough free storage for the download and installation; the needed space can vary.
- Check that the internet connection is working. If the download repeatedly fails, try another reliable network and retry the store download.
- Garena’s Android 7.0-and-earlier download guidance also asks players to check whether background mobile data is restricted for Free Fire. Device menu labels vary; look in the app’s data-usage settings if that applies to you.
- If the error persists, record the exact message, device model and operating-system version for official support. Before clearing data or reinstalling, confirm that your existing account is bound and you can access its login.
New phone starts a new account
On the old device, verify the player name and UID and check the linked platform in game settings. On the new device, sign in with that same linked platform account. An unrelated Google, Facebook or other login can open a different profile even on the same phone.
If the old account is still a guest and the old device works, bind it to your own supported platform before switching. Garena notes that guest accounts do not automatically carry between devices or between Free Fire and Free Fire MAX.
Lost access to the linked platform
If a recovery email was already bound to the game account, Garena’s recovery process starts at the login screen’s Account Recovery option. Follow the email verification prompts, check the displayed player name and UID, then bind the account to another valid platform login.
If no recovery email was bound, Garena directs players to recover the linked platform account through that platform. A lost guest account whose device or game data is gone cannot be recovered according to Garena. Never hand a password or verification code to someone promising a shortcut.
