Quick answer

An Erangel hillside example for reading the zone, watching flanks and using remaining smoke.

Look at the next safe zone and choose your next solid cover before you run. A rock inside the circle can be better than a clear view from exposed ground, but only if you check who can shoot its sides. This is a decision process, not a guaranteed winning position.

Example: Erangel hillside, squad match

Imagine your squad is behind a rock on an Erangel slope. The next circle excludes your rock; another rock sits just inside, with a low dip between them. An enemy was last seen downhill, while the opposite flank is unknown. This is a hypothetical terrain example, not a fixed map location.

  1. Check information: open the map briefly for the next circle and timer. Share the last known enemy position; distinguish a confirmed sighting from a guess.
  2. Choose the route: look for the low dip and the far rock. Check whether either side exposes you to another team. If the dip has no cover from the known enemy, look for another route.
  3. Split tasks: one teammate watches the known direction while the others move between cover; call out movement and regroup. Adjust if a teammate is down or everyone is exposed.
  4. Use supplies deliberately: if the crossing is visible and you still have smoke, throw it between the enemy sightline and your path, wait for it to spread, then move. Smoke hides vision, not bullets. Keep a grenade for a known threat if the throw is safe; don't throw blindly just because the circle is small.
  5. Reassess at the rock: listen, check both sides and the next zone before peeking. If the position is being flanked, use terrain to change cover instead of repeatedly exposing the same angle.

When the plan breaks

If the zone is already closing, pick the nearest reachable cover and move; delaying for perfect information can leave the squad exposed to the zone. If no safe route is visible, share that uncertainty and choose the least exposed option together. The exact terrain, remaining teams and current mode can change the best play.
