Quick answer

A practical skill sequence and checklist for starting a fight or stopping a diver.

Before charging, check that a teammate who can deal damage is close enough to follow, not still clearing a distant lane. If an assassin is already threatening that teammate, keeping control skills nearby can be more valuable than chasing the opposing back line.

Check these three things before you go

  1. Your team: look at the minimap and nearby models. Can your damage dealers reach the target during your control, and are they ready to fight? Signal your intention and give them time to approach.
  2. The entry: identify the target and a route your team can support. An unseen bush or missing enemies on the flank can turn your charge into a trap.
  3. Your skills and exit: check whether Sacred Hammer and Implosion are ready, your health is sufficient, and where you can retreat if nobody follows. Do not commit through an enemy tower just because the ultimate is available.

A simple engage to practise

In practice mode, approach a target and use skill 2, Sacred Hammer, to charge and push it toward the position your allies can attack. Use its follow-up control when available, then Implosion when the target is within range. Add Attack Wave to slow opponents as appropriate. The exact order can change with position: do not push an enemy out of your allies' reach just to complete a memorized combo.

After the push, tap Sacred Hammer again while its second cast is available to knock enemies in front of you airborne.

First practise the push direction against a stationary target: stand on one side and see where the target ends up. Then repeat from the opposite side. In a real match, announce your target, wait until teammates are within useful range, and engage. If the enemy can interrupt your ultimate, consider whether that ability has been used; the skill can be stopped before the team gets its follow-up.

When to protect instead

Imagine your marksman is behind you and an enemy diver approaches from the side. Turn toward that threat and use Sacred Hammer to push the diver away from your teammate, rather than pushing the diver deeper into them. Use follow-up control if it helps your teammate escape. Your ultimate can also control a nearby group, but spending it while your damage dealers are too far away may leave you isolated.

Hold the engage if your team is retreating, your health is low, the enemy position is unclear or nobody can follow. Ping and reposition near your carry instead. After the exchange, ask whether your push helped allies reach the target or displaced it away from them; adjust your angle next time.
