Quick answer

Compare EXP, Gold, Mid, Jungle and Roam, then choose a position that fits how you want to play.

For your first matches, try EXP lane with a fighter you understand if you want to learn duels and defend one side of the map. Prefer attacking from range? Try Gold lane. Tell your team your intended position before the match and learn its job instead of relying on a hero's label alone.

This guide covers the international version of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang on Android and iOS. Hero balance and match details can change with updates.

Hero roles and positions are different

Hero roles such as Fighter, Mage, Marksman, Tank, Assassin and Support describe a hero's general strengths. Positions such as EXP, Gold, Mid, Jungle and Roam describe your job in the match. A hero can suit more than one position; the role label is a guide, not an absolute rule.

Position First job to remember Good fit if you enjoy
EXP lane Clear your minions, protect the turret and watch for safe opportunities to help. Side-lane duels.
Gold lane Earn gold from the lane and stay safe when enemies approach. Developing a ranged damage dealer.
Mid lane Clear the wave, then look for opportunities to assist other lanes. Mage skills and moving to help.
Jungle Clear jungle monsters, plan your route and help contest objectives. Managing routes and helping lanes.
Roam Move to support teammates, share information and help start or protect fights. Enabling teammates instead of focusing on lane minions.

These are common assignments, not a ban on other heroes. Agree on positions with your team and read your hero's abilities before locking in.

A first choice: EXP or Gold

In EXP, pick a fighter whose skills make sense to you. Clear minion waves while respecting the opponent's range. If the opponent disappears or several enemies approach, retreat toward safety and tell your team. Before helping elsewhere, check your lane: leaving while your turret is under pressure can cost an objective.

In Gold, focus on earning gold and staying alive. Use your range without standing far ahead alone. If enemies approach and help is unavailable, retreat toward your turret or teammates. Damage potential matters little if you are eliminated before the fight starts.

Want to help across the map?

Mid and Roam pay frequent attention to team movement. As Mid, clear your wave when safe, then check whether another lane needs help; return when your own lane is pressured. As Roam, support teammates who need protection and share information about threats. Don't check a dangerous area alone without a way out.

The jungler divides attention among monsters, lane assistance and objectives such as Turtle or Lord. Retribution is commonly used for the jungle job. If that feels like too much for your first match, learn a lane first and try jungle once checking the map is more comfortable.

Before locking in

Look at the positions your team has already selected. If two players both want Gold, discuss who will switch rather than arriving in the same lane without a plan. Check the map regularly and signal when an opponent disappears or you need help. Play the same hero and position a few times so you can identify one thing to improve.
