Quick answer

Before forcing a through ball, look for a teammate with space and a safe next pass. Practise two routes against AI: a central one-two and a wide pass followed by a cross or cutback. A clear chance matters more than completing a complicated move.

Before forcing a through ball, look for a teammate with space and a safe next pass. Practise two routes against AI: a central one-two and a wide pass followed by a cross or cutback. A clear chance matters more than completing a complicated move.

Route 1: central one-two

  1. Pass from a midfielder to a nearby forward who has space to receive. Avoid passing through a defender's body.
  2. Trigger or create a forward run after the pass. Konami calls its command 1-2 Pass (Forwards): the passer runs towards attack after releasing the ball.
  3. Watch the runner and defender. If the lane opens, return a short pass or through ball into the space; if blocked, recycle to another teammate instead of forcing it.
  4. Take a shot only when the receiver can control the ball and see a useful angle. If a defender closes the gap, pass back and reset.

Route 2: use the flank

  1. Move the ball from midfield to a wide player with room ahead. Let the receiving player control it before accelerating.
  2. Look at the penalty area: a central runner should be available, and the pass must not run straight through a defender.
  3. Use a cross when a teammate is positioned for it, or a short pass back to a supporting player if the route is open. If both are covered, retain possession and switch sides.

Practise without guessing the buttons

Open the in-game Command List for your platform and selected controls; find low pass, through ball, cross, shot and 1-2 pass. Mobile touch, mobile controller and console/PC can use different inputs; Konami's mobile controller manual provides its own diagram. In an AI match, repeat each route five times and note whether the pass was intercepted, the runner was covered or the shot angle was poor. Change one decision next time.
