Kailok is an early main-story boss, though not necessarily the first boss every player encounters. Bring healing food, keep enough stamina to defend and focus on short, repeatable openings. Community guides describe his broad sword waves and a period in which he becomes difficult to damage; this draft has not been tested in-game on your version.

Prepare before entering
Check your equipped weapon and shield, confirm your guard and evade inputs, and place Health-restoring food in your quick selection. If your damage or survival feels inadequate, inspect Refinement at the Hernand blacksmith and compare the current requirements before spending materials. Save before the encounter if the game allows it.
Avoid spending all stamina on a long opening combo. You need room to block or move when Kailok attacks. The exact food count and recovery values depend on your progress and updates; check your item descriptions.
On the default controller layout described by PowerPyx, hold D-pad Right to open the item wheel, select food and use R2/RT to cycle foods; tap D-pad Right to eat the selected item. For Kailok, its guide recommends pressing L1/LB as an attack lands for a shield counter, then using a short follow-up. Check your own bindings and prompts; these timings have not been independently tested here.
Read the attack, then answer
- Wide sword waves: watch Kailok's wind-up and the direction of the wave. A published boss guide says these attacks can be blocked at a stamina cost; keep stamina available and try moving sideways if the line is unsafe.
- Close-range sequence: guard or time a counter near impact using your configured input. When his sequence ends, take a short attack, then stop and watch for the next move rather than spending the entire stamina bar.
- Glowing, protected phase: PowerPyx describes a blue-glow super-armor period where Kailok cannot be damaged. Stop committing attacks and focus on defense until the state ends. If the visual cue or effect differs on your version, follow what actually happens on screen.
- Healing: create distance after a committed attack, then consume your selected food in an opening. Do not assume that eating prevents the next hit.
If your attempt fails
Watch which moment cost your health: a wave caught while stamina was empty, a follow-up after your counter, or an unsafe healing attempt. Fix one problem on the next try. If you cannot survive long enough to observe the pattern, improve equipment, bring more food or adjust difficulty before returning.
Kailok's order and quest names vary across guides and versions; check your journal and the name on the enemy health bar instead of assuming this is the first encounter in every route. This guide does not claim a verified precise parry window or a guaranteed win.
