Quick answer

Your first goal is not to clear the entire map. Follow the early story until you can move freely around Hernand, learn your own guard and evade inputs, and prepare food before challenging unfamiliar enemies. Explore nearby when curious, then return to the quest if a marker requires a skill you do not yet have.

Follow the early story until you can move freely around Hernand, learn your own guard and evade inputs, and prepare food before challenging unfamiliar enemies. Learn the controls while the stakes are low

Open input settings and check movement, attack, Guard/Aim, Evade and food selection on your actual device. Presets and remapping change buttons. Against a manageable enemy, watch one attack, defend or move away, and use a short counter rather than committing to a long combo. Save when the game allows before a harder encounter.

When you reach Hernand

  1. Follow the current journal objective into the city and talk to the people it identifies. Do not rely on a fixed arrival time: exploration and difficulty change the pace.
  2. Look for the city bell tower and ring the bell when accessible; guides report that bells reveal nearby map information. Read the current marker descriptions before pursuing them.
  3. Visit the blacksmith, choose Refinement and inspect the materials for the weapon you actually use. Iron and copper ore are examples for metal equipment, but check the selected item's requirement.
  4. Gather ingredients and prepare food at an available campfire or cooking station. Read the item description for Health recovery and assign it to your food quick selection before leaving.

Build your first travel loop

When you find an Abyss Nexus, stand on its circular platform until it activates and check the marker on your map. You can return to an activated point from the map when your current state permits. A question mark can also lead to a puzzle or another activity, so do not assume every marker is a travel point. Bring supplies for the route between unlocked locations.

As the story opens Howling Hill and its camp, inspect the available facilities and storage rather than assuming every upgrade is immediately accessible. Published guides differ in their exact chapter descriptions; use the journal and current prompts for your version. If a side task or boss is too difficult, leave, refine your gear, replenish and return later.
