For a first TH8 air attack, try dragons with Rage spells against a base whose air defenses you can clearly identify. The goal is to get the main group through the core, not to drop every dragon in one spot and hope. Check your own camp and spell capacity before building the army; developing TH8 villages may not have every upgrade yet.

Prepare the army
One published TH8 example uses up to ten dragons and Rage spells; it assumes sufficient Army Camp and spell capacity. Dragons take substantial space, so if you cannot fit the full example, use the number available and practise at your own capacity. Rage spells require the appropriate unlock and available spell space. Reinforcements and heroes are optional; do not assume your Clan Castle contains a specific donation.
The exact count and upgrade level depend on your village. In the army screen confirm the units, spells and capacity before an actual war attack. Use a friendly challenge or regular battle to rehearse first; a full TH8 army does not guarantee three stars.
A concrete practice roster is 10 Dragons (20 housing each, so 200 total) and 3 Rage spells, if your camps and spell capacity allow it. The cited example also carries a Poison spell for defending Clan Castle troops; treat it as optional if you have not unlocked it. Before attacking, check the actual total on the army screen; at lower capacity, reduce the number of Dragons rather than assuming a full roster fits.
Scout before deploying
Find the Air Defenses, Air Sweeper, and enemy Clan Castle. Choose an entry that lets dragons approach the core and important air defenses without travelling around a long ring of outside buildings. Avoid approaching straight into an Air Sweeper if another side offers a better route.
Look at the two edges of your intended entry. If buildings extend far around the perimeter, dragons can split and wander; you will need to clear the edges first. If air defenses cover the route strongly or defending Clan Castle troops are likely to distract the army, choose another target or adjust the plan.
Deploy in a controlled sequence
- Place one dragon at each edge of the chosen entry and allow them to remove outside buildings. Watch their direction rather than deploying the rest immediately.
- Once the edges start opening a path, deploy the main group between them. The cleared edges encourage the group toward the interior, but do not guarantee its path.
- Use Rage over the advancing dragons when they are approaching a dense defensive area. Aim so the group enters its effect rather than placing it behind units that have already flown past.
- Watch the replay. If dragons split around the outside, start the edge clearing earlier or select a different approach. If they enter together but die to air defenses, reassess entry and spell timing before adding complexity.
This is a practice plan, not a fixed spell recipe for every defense level. Lightning damage and defensive health depend on levels: check the actual values before committing spells rather than assuming a set number destroys any Air Defense.
