Use the supply box to choose practical upgrades for your handgun or hatchet while preserving credits for supplies.
For a first run, improve a weapon you already use instead of buying every available option. A dependable handgun upgrade is a sensible starting point if you aim and fire it often; if you regularly use Leon's hatchet to defend or make space, consider an early hatchet improvement instead. Keep credits for ammunition, healing or a needed inventory upgrade.
This guide covers Leon in the Resident Evil Requiem base game on PC and PS5. What appears in a supply box depends on your progress and mode; check the actual item, effect and price in your game before buying. These priorities are recommendations, not a measured best build.
Find the supply box and compare
Leon can use supply boxes to exchange credits for equipment, ammunition and upgrades. At a box, inspect the weapon upgrade options and their displayed effects and prices. Decide which weapon you will carry through the next section; an improvement to a weapon left in storage does not solve an immediate fight.
Earned credits can be recorded when you interact with a supply box, so check the actual balance there before deciding what you can afford. Don't assume Grace has the same supply-box upgrade system: her crafting and equipment use different rules.
A practical first spending order
| Your current problem | Consider first | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Your regular handgun is difficult to rely on | An available improvement to that handgun | It benefits the weapon you use frequently. Read the exact effect before buying. |
| You use the hatchet often for defence or close combat | An available hatchet improvement | The hatchet supports Leon in close combat and defensive play. |
| You keep running out of space | Compare an available case expansion with weapon improvements | Carrying space can matter more than a minor stat increase if you must leave supplies behind. |
| You are almost out of ammunition or healing | Retain credits for immediate supplies | An upgrade cannot help if you cannot safely reach the next encounter. |
Pick one change, then play the next section before spending more. A handgun improvement is a default suggestion for a player who uses it, not a claim that it is universally stronger than every alternative. A hatchet-first choice makes more sense if you already use its defensive timing reliably; if you are still learning, practise in a manageable encounter rather than assuming an upgrade replaces timing.
Before buying a new weapon
Check your current weapons, their ammunition and available case space. A second weapon for another range may be useful, but compare its cost with upgrades and supplies you already need. Do not sell an equipped weapon or essential ammunition merely to afford an upgrade without checking what you will carry afterward. Stock and later opportunities can vary by progress and mode.
After buying, confirm the item or upgrade in the supply-box interface and look at your remaining credits and loadout. Your next goal is a reliable setup you can use, not the longest list of purchases.
