Quick answer

Learn Layla's skills, a starter item path and how to fight from a safer position.

Play Layla in the gold lane and focus on collecting minions without getting caught. Her basic attacks become dangerous as her equipment develops, but standing alone in front of the team makes her an easy target. Start behind your minions or teammates and keep an escape path toward your turret.

What to use each skill for

Skill Practical use
Skill 1, Malefic Bomb Aim a shot down the lane; use the movement-speed benefit after a hit to reposition. The first unit hit matters, so watch for minions blocking the shot.
Skill 2, Void Projectile Hit a target and follow with another attack to make use of its mark; read the current skill text for the exact effect.
Ultimate, Destruction Rush Fire a line of damage through the intended target; aim deliberately rather than turning your back to chase. Its passive extends attack and skill range as described in-game.

When Malefic Bomb hits, Layla temporarily gains extra basic-attack and Void Projectile range. Use that window from a safe position; the bonus does not make her immune to a dive.

In practice mode, try skill 2 → basic attack, then try skill 1 → move sideways → basic attack. Notice how far your attacks reach and how long it takes to turn away. Exact values and effects may change; use the current in-game description.

A straightforward starting build

For a beginner in a normal match, one published starter path is Swift Boots → Windtalker → Berserker's Fury, then consider Malefic Roar when physical defense becomes a problem. The idea is to build attack speed and damage first, then address armor; this is a starting point, not a promise that every opponent requires the same order.

If enemy physical burst repeatedly catches you, inspect Wind of Nature and its active effect in the shop; learn its button before a fight. If healing is the main issue, inspect Sea Halberd instead. These situational choices take a slot, so buy the answer to the threat you actually face, rather than forcing both into every game. Confirm item names and effects in your version.

From lane to team fight

  1. In lane: last-hit minions where possible, watch the minimap for missing opponents, and avoid walking into an unobserved bush alone. If the enemy can reach you before you can retreat, farm nearer the turret.
  2. When teammates arrive: let them engage first, aim at a target you can hit without crossing into danger, and move between attacks. Don't walk past the front line merely to reach a low-health enemy.
  3. If someone dives you: move toward your team or turret, use the tools available to create space and keep attacking only while you can survive. If you bought an active defensive item, activate it against the threat described in its tooltip.

After a fight, check whether you died to an unseen approach or lacked damage against armor. That answer guides your next position or item much better than copying a fixed six-item list.
