Quick answer

Use Golden Seeds to add flask charges and Sacred Tears to increase how much each drink restores. Both upgrades are made while resting at a Site of Grace. If you frequently run out of drinks before reaching the next grace, look for a seed; if you have charges left but each drink restores too little, look for a tear.

This guide concerns the Crimson and Cerulean sacred flasks in Elden Ring, not the different flask system in Nightreign. The Flask of Wondrous Physick is a separate item.

Upgrade and allocate at a grace

  1. Rest at a Site of Grace and open its flask menu. Choose Add Charge to Flask if you have enough Golden Seeds; the game displays the required amount. Confirm and check that your total number of charges increased.
  2. Choose Increase Amount Replenished by Flasks when you have a Sacred Tear. This improves the restorative amount of the sacred flasks, not the number of uses.
  3. Choose Allocate Flask Charges to split your total between Crimson, which restores HP, and Cerulean, which restores FP. Reallocation changes the split, not the total.

For a new melee character who rarely spends FP, start with mostly Crimson charges. If you frequently use spells, skills or spirit ashes and run out of FP first, move one charge to Cerulean and try the next fight. Adjust again at a grace after seeing which resource actually runs out.

Two early places to look

Golden Seed: From Gatefront, the road heads northwest through Stormgate toward Stormhill. Look for a small glowing golden tree beside the road after passing the gate; the seed is at its base. The gate is dangerous early on, so use your mount if available and avoid stopping to fight everything.

Sacred Tear: The Third Church of Marika is in eastern Limgrave, on the northern edge of Mistwood. Follow the road east from the Gatefront area and check your map as you travel. Enter the ruined church and look near the statue for the tear. Activate its grace before leaving so you can return.

The Crimson and Cerulean flasks share a maximum of 14 total charges; at that cap, extra Golden Seeds cannot add another. The allocation menu can still redistribute the existing charges. (source)

Why can’t I add another charge?

Check the cost displayed in the grace menu. Later charge upgrades require more than one Golden Seed; collecting a seed does not automatically add a charge. If you used a Sacred Tear instead, you improved restoration per drink, a separate upgrade. Resting at a grace refills the sacred flasks, though most defeated enemies also return.
