Elden Ring Limgrave Opening Route: Map, Torrent and Supplies First

From the First Step, follow the road north to the Church of Elleh, then continue toward Gatefront. Your early goals are Sites of Grace, the map fragment, Torrent and basic supplies. The Tree Sentinel and Margit are not mandatory first fights; ride or walk around a threat and return later.

1. Reach the church

Activate the First Step grace and head toward the ruined Church of Elleh. The mounted Tree Sentinel patrols the area: give it space if you want to avoid a difficult early battle. At the church, activate the grace, meet merchant Kalé and inspect the smithing table. The crafting kit is a useful purchase if you have the runes; don't spend everything if you want to level.

2. Find Gatefront

Follow the road northeast to Gatefront Ruins, activating graces as you go. The camp contains enemies: approach slowly, clear or avoid patrols, and retreat to a grace if necessary. Find the map fragment at the stone marker beside the road. Rest at an appropriate early Limgrave grace and accept Melina's offer when she appears to gain the ability to level and the Spectral Steed Whistle for Torrent. Gatefront is a common early encounter, but don't assume the meeting is tied exclusively to that one grace.

After obtaining Torrent, return to the Church of Elleh at night and look for Renna's encounter. Availability can depend on progression; if she isn't there, continue exploring rather than assuming your save is broken.

3. Stock up before the castle

Explore nearby ruins and caves at your own pace. Mark graces and pickups on your map, buy the crafting kit if useful, and collect flask upgrades when found. Resting replenishes flasks but usually respawns ordinary enemies. Save runes by spending them when practical; retrieve dropped runes after death carefully, since another death before recovery loses them.

The route beyond Gatefront leads toward Stormgate and Margit. If the soldiers, giant or boss stop your progress, detour around danger or explore another part of Limgrave and return with more levels and improved equipment.
