Start with a balanced 4-3-3 using players you already own: a goalkeeper, four defenders, three midfielders and three forwards. It is a practice starting point, not the only winning formation. Choose a manager whose proficiency matches the Team Playstyle you select.

To set a formation, open Game Plan and use Change Formation. If Fluid Formation is enabled, check both attacking and defensive layouts; Konami says they can differ. Match the positions to your available players. (source、source)
Fill the roles first
| Area | What to look for |
|---|---|
| Defence | Two centre-backs and two full-backs in positions they can play; avoid sending both full-backs forward at once while learning. |
| Midfield | Keep a player available in front of defence and others who offer passing options. |
| Attack | A central forward plus wide options give you several passing lanes. Use suitable substitutes if your roster is limited. |
In Game Plan > Tactics, choose a Team Playstyle such as Possession Game or Quick Counter, then compare manager proficiency for that style. Konami recommends a manager with higher proficiency in your chosen style. Names and available choices can differ across updates: the v6.0.0 notes added Overload, so don't rely on an older fixed list.
Test and adjust
- Place each player in a suitable position shown on their card. If a slot is weak, use an appropriate player you own rather than spending on a specific card immediately.
- Play an AI match. During build-up, check whether you have a safe passing option in midfield; after losing possession, see whether the centre of defence is exposed.
- If you lose the ball repeatedly, shorten passes and keep one midfielder available. If your flank is exposed, hold a full-back deeper and avoid rushing forward with both.
- Change one thing, such as a player or formation, and play again. Compare what happened instead of buying a whole new squad after one loss.
No featured or paid card is required to learn this setup. Formation, manager and player availability depend on your account and current game version.
