FC 27 SBCs explained: check the challenge before you submit players

In Football Ultimate Team, a Squad Building Challenge (SBC) exchanges selected player items for progress and rewards. Submitted players permanently leave your club, so first check the requirements, reward and expiry, then review every selected card before confirming. EA says its advisers cannot restore submitted items.

FC 27 has both traditional Puzzle SBCs, which ask for a squad meeting conditions, and Simplified SBCs, which use Item Score. Check the type on the challenge screen; the solution process differs.

First: choose the challenge

From the main menu open Ultimate Team, then the Squad Building Challenges tab and select a challenge. Read its reward, expiry and requirements. Some challenges are parts of a group with separate rewards; check whether you want the individual reward or can reasonably complete the whole group before it ends.

Check your own club and SBC Storage before buying anything. Decide which players you actually use or intend to keep; leave them out of your working selection. A reward pack is not a guarantee that you will recover what you spend.

Puzzle SBC: meet the squad requirements

1. Open the challenge and read each requirement. It may specify player quality, squad rating, chemistry, nationalities, leagues or clubs; the actual combination depends on that challenge.
2. Add eligible items from your club or SBC Storage. If you need a specific missing item, compare the cost before using the transfer market.
3. Check the requirement indicators. If chemistry is short, examine how the selected players and their positions satisfy the displayed conditions; if rating is short, review the squad rather than replacing a useful player immediately.
4. Before submitting, review every card and the reward. Confirm only when you are willing to lose the selected items permanently.

There is no universal cheapest squad: available cards, requirements and market prices change. A team that worked for another player may cost more or fail a different challenge.

Simplified SBC: watch the Item Score

Select a Simplified SBC, check its required Item Score, then choose eligible items and inspect how much each contributes. EA says you can submit progress across multiple sessions, including eligible duplicates. Submitted cards leave your club immediately, even if the challenge is not yet complete.

The main reward arrives after the full requirement is met. Before any partial submission, check whether you can reasonably finish before expiry; items already submitted are not returned if you stop. EA says some expired challenges with partial progress may provide a reduced untradeable reward, subject to the challenge's rules. If a warning says your selection greatly exceeds the required score, reconsider the selection before confirming.

Once you have reviewed the selected items and accepted the trade-off, submit and check the challenge's progress or reward screen. If you are unsure about a card, back out and choose another before confirmation.
