If this is your first football game or you only have a few minutes, start with Training Centre, then a Kick Off match. You can learn the controls and play with a real club before committing to a longer save. If you already know you want to manage a club over seasons, choose Manager Career; if collecting players and building a changing squad appeals to you, try Ultimate Team.

This guide covers the main FC 27 modes on PC, PlayStation and Xbox. Modes and menu availability vary by platform and edition; check your own game. Nintendo version differences should be checked separately.
| You want to… | Start with | What you commit to |
|---|---|---|
| Learn movement, passing and shooting | Training Centre | Individual lessons and practice; EA describes it as accessible offline. |
| Play a match now | Kick Off | A quick match alone or with a friend on the same device; minimal setup. |
| Manage a club over time | Manager Career | A save with squad, tactics, transfers, development and club objectives. |
| Build a squad from player items | Ultimate Team | A club that grows through its own activities and rewards; check the available online and AI options. |
First session: learn, then play
In the learn-to-play section, open Training Centre and try basic movement, passing and shooting. You do not have to master every drill before playing. Once you can move, pass and attempt a shot, enter Kick Off, choose two teams and a difficulty you can learn from, and play a match.
Afterwards, pick the one thing that caused the most trouble. If passes went to the wrong player, revisit passing; if you lost the ball while trying to shoot, practice creating space and shooting. Return to Kick Off and try again. Training gives you a low-pressure place to repeat the action; the match shows whether you can use it in context.
Want a longer project? Pick your kind of progress
Career Mode is for following a player or club across seasons. In Manager Career you manage the squad, transfers and tactics; Player Career follows a single player's development. Start with a club you recognize, read its objectives and play a few matches before making large transfer decisions. Save and continue when you have time.
Ultimate Team is for building a club from player items and choosing activities for that squad. EA's FC 27 overview describes both AI and online experiences. Start with its introductory instructions and inspect activity requirements and rewards before committing time or items. Purchases are available in the game, but buying packs is not necessary to understand the mode and a pack does not guarantee a particular player.
Which should you choose today?
Play Kick Off if you want a match right now or are learning the basics. Choose Career if you want a persistent club or player story with decisions between matches. Choose Ultimate Team if your main attraction is collecting and adapting a squad for its activities. You can try one and change your mind; selecting a mode does not require you to master the others first.
