Check the platform group

EA groups FC cross-play by generation: PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in the current-generation group; PS4 and Xbox One in the previous-generation group. Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 do not support cross-play with those platforms. Confirm the installed and launched edition on both sides before retrying.

If a newer console has access to the previous-generation edition, EA says it can run that edition to play with friends using the previous-generation version. Check your own edition entitlement first; do not assume every purchase includes both versions.

In EA Connect, open Player search, enter the friend’s EA ID or platform username, select their name and choose Add friend. They accept under Friend requests. Features vary by game.

Enable cross-play and find your friend

  1. From the main menu, open EA Connect → Social settings → Cross-play → Cross-play settings and check that Cross-play Enabled is on. EA also lists a route through Customise → Online Settings → Matchmaking Options. Menu names can vary by language.
  2. Both players should check their EA accounts and add or locate each other through EA Connect. Restart the game if a newly added friend or invitation does not appear, then send a fresh invite.
  3. Check that both players can access the same mode and its online requirements. Cross-play support and features vary by mode; the platform group alone is not a guarantee that a particular party can form.

If the invite still fails

For The Grounds, EA specifies cross-play among PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. If friends are in different Grounds worlds, EA says to send or accept an EA Connect invite to join them. Test a supported mode, check for game updates and service or connection problems, and record the exact error and platform before contacting EA Help.

Cross-play is not the same as cross-progression: sharing a match across platforms does not mean every account’s progress transfers between them. Account, edition and mode restrictions still apply.
