Quick answer

Find an upgrade vendor, preview the cost and decide when a weapon is worth improving.

A sword falling behind your character level does not necessarily need replacing. Visit a blacksmith or armorer, choose Improve my equipment!, then preview the stats and Denarii cost before committing. The price depends on the item and level; check the actual preview.

Make the upgrade

  1. Open the map and find a blacksmith or armorer you have discovered. The blacksmith in Parlita is one option. Merchants may keep hours, so try another available vendor if the stall is closed at night.
  2. Talk to the vendor and choose Improve my equipment!, rather than the regular buy-and-sell menu.
  3. Select your item and target level. Check the projected stats and price. The target cannot exceed your character level; if money is tight, see whether a lower target is affordable.
  4. Hold the displayed confirm button to pay. Check that the item level and stats changed afterward.

Is it worth the money?

What changes What to expect
Weapon or armor base stats They rise with item level; use the preview for the actual increase.
Existing bonus attributes They remain the same.
Item rarity It does not increase.

Compare a newly found weapon with your current one first. If the new one suits your build better, replacing may be cheaper. A favorite with useful bonuses can be worth improving. Costs vary, so you do not have to pay after every character level; compare again after gaining a few levels.

The upgrade did not happen

Check that the target is no higher than your character level, that you have enough Denarii, and that you held confirm instead of tapping it. If the item is already at your level, wait until your character levels up. Button names depend on your platform and controls.
