Quick answer

Compare human and vampire play, bloodthirst risk and time costs before choosing when to act.

Check the objective first, then choose when to act. Coen is human by day and a vampire by night, with different abilities in each state; some people and quests also appear only at certain times. Before waiting for a preferred form, check the quest's own timing restrictions.

Day: scout, then use your human abilities

By day you can use swordplay and human-side abilities. In a new area, look at entrances, enemies and quest prompts before committing to an objective. Ordinary movement and exploration do not continuously spend the deadline in real time, but an interaction or quest action you find can advance time. Read the prompt before proceeding.

Day may suit a character who is available then, or a fight where you prefer Coen's human toolkit. The moves you actually have depend on unlocked skills; don't assume every ability is available from the start.

Night: use vampire abilities and watch bloodthirst

At night Coen gains access to vampire-side combat and movement abilities. If a high place or route seems inaccessible by day, check whether an unlocked night ability provides another entrance; don't assume one move reaches every ledge.

Keep an eye on bloodthirst: failing to satisfy the need for blood can lead to losing control and harming someone. Before setting out at night, check your current state and options instead of rushing past the risk to quest characters. Follow the skill description, quest choices and situation rather than a fixed sequence for every encounter.

Before changing phase, consider the time cost

  1. Check whether the objective is available only by day or night, and whether it has its own deadline.
  2. Check your unlocked abilities and route. If you can scout in the current state, there's no need to panic over real-world time passing.
  3. Read the game prompt before a quest or other action that advances time. Afterward, check the new phase and the status of other quests.

For example, if a person is available only by day and it is currently night, check the quest deadline first, then consider a useful action that moves time toward day. If you still need a night ability to open your route, don't skip the phase blindly before checking it.
