Start with a Special Technique that solves a problem you actually encounter, then use Adaptations to support the same plan. Surrounded often? Try Tornado Spin. Struggling to interrupt a dangerous target? Try Knee Breaker. If staying alive is the issue, look at defensive Adaptations and the healing-focused Relentless Technique when it is available.

This guide covers the PS5 release. Unlocks depend on story progress or level, so the options visible in your menu may not match another player’s.
Know the difference
| System | What it changes | First decision |
|---|---|---|
| Techniques | Combat moves and rechargeable Special Techniques. | Pick a move for a situation you face often. |
| Adaptations | Equipped enhancements to Logan’s abilities and combat strengths. | Choose whether you need more resilience, healing or pressure. |
PlayStation says you can equip up to four Special Techniques at once and spend additional Technique Points to improve their effects. Some Techniques unlock through story progress, others at a certain level. Check the actual unlock and point cost displayed in your game before committing.
Adaptations are unlocked as you earn AP and raise your Adaptation Level, which also opens slots called Strands. The official guide says the first playthrough allows up to ten equipped Adaptations and they can be swapped at any time. Read each available effect and slot requirement before equipping; the number you can use now depends on your progress.

Choose a practical starting setup
- For groups: equip Tornado Spin if it is unlocked. Its multi-hit spin attacks nearby enemies and builds Rage. Do not assume upgrades are already active: read the current level before spending more points.
- For one threatening enemy: try Knee Breaker to stagger and interrupt. Use it when the enemy begins an attack you need to stop, then reposition rather than automatically spending every other ability.
- For survival: consider Relentless when available; the official guide describes it as temporarily improving healing. For Adaptations, look at Tough Skinned for reduced melee damage or Healing Dangerously for health from well-timed reactions. Choose according to what is actually defeating you.
- Test before investing further: enter a manageable encounter, use the move in its intended situation, then check whether it solved the problem. If it did not, swap an Adaptation and try again; do not assume unverified refunds or reset rules for Technique Points.
If a recommended option is still locked, keep a currently available move that helps you control a crowd or survive, and revisit the menu after progressing. The goal is a setup you can use reliably, not a fixed “best” list.
