When a fight turns chaotic, first move toward the ranged attacker or a leader marked in red. Removing one source of pressure gives you space to see incoming attacks. Alternate a short attack with a dodge or parry instead of committing to a long combo while several enemies are ready to strike.

This guide covers the PS5 game’s early combat. Controls can depend on your settings, so use the on-screen tutorial or control list for the button assigned on your setup.
Before charging in
Use Logan’s senses to observe the group. PlayStation’s guide recommends approaching unaware enemies from above or cover; a quiet close takedown can thin a group before open combat. A longer predatory leap can make noise and alert others, so plan where you will move after landing.
Once combat starts, find ranged enemies and leaders. Leaders have a red marker and make nearby enemies more coordinated and aggressive. If closing the distance exposes you to several attacks, dodge first and approach from a safer angle rather than running straight through the group.
Read the attack, then answer it
- Watch the enemy in front of you instead of pressing attack continuously. Use the game’s prompted dodge or parry when its attack arrives.
- Some enemies need several successful parries before they stagger. After one parry, be ready for the next attack instead of assuming every enemy will immediately open up.
- PlayStation identifies yellow flashes with Reckless Attacks. Practise the counter when prompted; if you are not yet comfortable, prioritise avoiding the attack and resetting your position.
- After a safe opening, land a short series of attacks and look around again. If a ranged enemy is still firing, deal with that pressure before extending your combo.
Use Rage without ignoring defence
Aggressive combat builds Rage through three tiers. At Tier 2, attacks become stronger and losing all health can activate Last Stand; Tier 3 adds stronger damage and critical strikes. Treat Last Stand as a chance to recover, not a reason to ignore incoming attacks. Follow the prompt in your current game rather than relying on an assumed button or timing.
Some encounters contain ability inhibitors that block abilities and healing. When you encounter one, use ordinary combat to create room and work toward destroying it; do not expect the usual healing to save you while it remains active.
If a fight keeps ending the same way, identify the cause: being shot from range, missed parries or rushing an inhibitor. Focus on that one problem in the next attempt. Once you can see the enemy’s next move, the longer combos have room to happen.
