Start with the talent that does the character's main job. For support Bennett, that is usually his Elemental Burst; for an on-field normal-attack damage dealer, it may instead be Normal Attack. Read your character's talent descriptions and check how you use them before spending books and Mora.

Two examples, two priorities
| Role | First priority | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Bennett supporting the team | Elemental Burst | His healing and attack support improve with Burst talent levels. His Skill can be a later investment if you use it for damage. |
| A character dealing most damage through Normal Attacks | Normal Attack | The damage you repeatedly use is the sensible first target; check that the character's specific attacks actually scale from this talent. |
These examples depend on your build and team. Don't raise Normal Attack simply because a character spends time on field: some characters' damage is governed by another talent. If a Burst is rarely available because you lack Energy, also address Energy Recharge and team rotation; talent levels don't solve energy needs by themselves.
Bennett’s Burst attack buff uses his Base ATK: his own base attack plus the weapon’s base attack. Artifact ATK and weapon secondary ATK stats do not increase that base; healing instead scales with his Max HP. (source)
Check materials before farming
- Open the character's Talents page and select the ability you want to raise. Read the effect and note the displayed materials, Mora cost and current level cap.
- Check the in-game source and domain schedule for the required talent books. HoYoverse notes that available books rotate by day; craft higher-rarity materials from lower-rarity ones if the recipe and materials permit.
- At higher levels, check any required boss material on the upgrade screen. Confirm the character's ascension requirements before planning further upgrades.
- Raise the chosen talent, try a familiar fight, then decide whether a second talent or another character needs resources more urgently.
Keep some Mora and materials for the rest of your team. You do not need to maximise every talent for a character to work; prioritise the abilities actually contributing to your play.
