Start with a sensitivity that lets you turn comfortably without losing control of small aim adjustments, then choose a crosshair you can see against both light and dark surfaces. Keep that setup for several practice sessions before changing it. A professional player's settings are a reference, not a guaranteed fit for your mouse, desk or hand movement.

Keep that setup for several practice sessions before changing it. A professional player's settings are a reference, not a guaranteed fit for your mouse, desk or hand movement.
This guide is for Counter-Strike 2 on PC. Valve changed crosshair controls in September 2026; check the current in-game labels and record your values before experimenting.
Record your starting point
Write down mouse DPI, in-game sensitivity, display resolution and your current crosshair settings. Use the same mouse, desk space and resolution when comparing. If your mouse software changes DPI automatically by profile, confirm which profile is active while playing.
In game settings, open the crosshair/scopes section and inspect the available styles, size and colour options. Valve's updated dynamic styles can display weapon inaccuracy and spread; a dynamic crosshair can therefore help a beginner notice the difference between moving and settling before a shot. If you prefer a static style, use it; visibility and consistency matter more than copying a preset.
Practice the same movements
Open a local practice map with a safe wall and stationary targets. Use a familiar weapon and repeat the following without changing the settings mid-test:
- Place the crosshair on a small wall mark. Sweep away, then bring it back. Observe whether you repeatedly stop short or pass the mark.
- Turn toward a second target using a comfortable movement. If you cannot turn enough within your available desk space, note that; if small corrections overshoot, note that too.
- Stand still and fire short bursts at a target. Then compare while moving. Watch the crosshair and bullet impacts; an aim setting cannot remove movement inaccuracy or recoil.
This is a repeatable practice routine, not a universal score or a claim that one short test proves the best setting.
Change one setting, then repeat
If you consistently overshoot small corrections, try a modest sensitivity reduction. If you repeatedly stop short or cannot turn with your usable mouse space, try a modest increase. Record the original and new values, then repeat the same drill. Avoid changing DPI and in-game sensitivity together, or you will not know what caused the difference.
For the crosshair, adjust colour, size or outline only when you lose it against the map or it obscures your target. Valve says its current thickness and length settings use pixel units and rescale when resolution changes, so recheck visibility if you change resolution. Do not treat a specific pixel size as universally optimal.
After a few sessions, keep the version that lets you make comfortable turns and corrections, then focus on stopping, aiming and shooting. If you change hardware or desk space, record the old values before recalibrating.
