Withers lets you change a character's class and rebuild level-up choices for 100 gold. You can meet him early in the Dank Crypt, then speak to him in camp. If you miss the crypt, he can appear at camp later as the story progresses; the exact timing is not a reliable substitute for visiting him early.

This guide covers the base game in Act 1 without assuming mods. It contains early location and encounter spoilers. Costs and interface labels should be checked in your current game.
Reach the hidden chamber
The Dank Crypt is inside the Overgrown Ruins near the Ravaged Beach and Roadside Cliffs. The ruins have several entrances; one option is the chapel entrance on the upper side. The route contains opponents, locked doors and traps, so save before exploring if your mode permits it.
Inside the ruins, make your way toward the northern shrine room with a large skeleton statue. A different room contains a central sarcophagus connected to a trap system: opening that sarcophagus is not the same step as waking Withers, so do not open it assuming it is required.
In the shrine, look behind the statue for a button on a side wall. Pressing it opens a hidden chamber and wakes nearby skeletons. Prepare the party before pressing it; if the fight is too hard, retreat, recover and return. After the encounter, enter the newly opened chamber and interact with its sarcophagus. Withers emerges and asks a question; complete the conversation.
He later joins your camp. Return there and speak to him to see his services. If he is not yet visible, continue the game and check camp again rather than assuming the conversation instantly placed him there.
Rebuild a character
- Select the character whose build you want to change and speak to Withers in camp.
- Choose the class-change service and check the displayed price; the usual cost is 100 gold.
- Rebuild from level 1, selecting class, ability scores and the available class-based choices as you level back up. Review each choice before leaving the screen.
- After rebuilding, check prepared spells and equipment before your next fight: the new class may need different choices or proficiencies.
Withers can change class, subclass, ability scores and class-based level-up choices, but not a character's race or background through this service. A paladin who has broken their oath must first resolve that oath status to access respec. Read the dialogue for your character; do not assume the same option is available in every state.
Adjust the party
Withers also offers hirelings once the relevant option is unlocked at character level 3; the usual recruitment cost is 100 gold each. Ask him about hirelings, choose one if you need a role filled, and check the displayed price. Hirelings do not replace the personal stories of recruited companions.
Once the rebuilt character or hireling is ready, review the party's exploration skills, frontline protection and available healing or control. Test the new setup in an ordinary encounter before committing it to a difficult fight.
