Quick answer

Unlock Cut and Rock Smash, collect small logs and stone, then process lumber and store your supplies.

For early building materials, use a simple loop: clear dead wood and rocks → pick up the drops → return home to process lumber and store supplies. Small Logs and processed Lumber are different materials; check which one your recipe actually requests.

This guide covers early Pokémon Pokopia on Switch 2. Names and availability should be checked in your game. The route and resource respawn have not been independently playtested here.

Learn the gathering moves

Advance the main story until you meet Scyther and Hitmonchan, who teach Cut and Rock Smash respectively. Cut clears grass, vines and dead wood. Rock Smash breaks rocks and some barriers. If you haven't learned a move yet, continue the story rather than repeatedly interacting with an obstacle you can't clear.

Moves use PP. Carry a few Leppa Berries before leaving: the source says eating them restores PP. Check the name and amount available in your game, and refill before you run completely out during a gathering trip.

Make one wood-and-stone circuit

  1. Free backpack space. Leave from your home and walk a loop through an unlocked area where you can see dead wood and rocks. Remember the way back.
  2. Use Cut on dead wood or wood piles. Pick up the Small Logs that drop. You can clear grass and vines too, but don't assume they guarantee wood.
  3. Use Rock Smash on rocks. Collect the stone that drops; some rocky walls can also be opened. Avoid destroying terrain you've just built on purpose.
  4. Return when your bag is nearly full or PP runs low. Check what you gathered, set aside what your next building objective needs and store the rest by material.

This is a repeatable route for clearing an area, not a promise that the same wood or rocks respawn on a fixed timer. If nearby resources run out, explore an area you've already unlocked and check what's actually there.

Turn logs into lumber

The source calls the processed material Lumber: collect Small Logs, hand them to a Pokémon with the Chop specialty and wait for processing before collecting the result. Check the Pokémon's available specialty and the in-game prompts. If processing isn't available yet, keep the raw material and continue the story.

Lumber is useful for items such as Storage Boxes; check the recipe screen for the exact requirements. For a first allocation, reserve whatever your current story build asks for, use extra lumber for storage if available, and keep remaining logs and stone. This is an example, not a fixed quantity every stage needs.

With Small Logs in your bag, talk to a Pokémon with Chop, such as Scyther. Choose “look at this,” select the logs, request Lumber and choose the quantity. One Small Log makes five Lumber according to Pocket Tactics. Processing takes time; talk again to collect the portion made. Menu wording can differ.
