Practice defending axe swings, dodging charges and taking short openings; distinguish the enhanced encounter.
Against Byakue, the huge axe-wielding creature covered in talismans, first distinguish an axe swing from a body charge. Practice guarding or parrying the former; prioritize space or a dodge for the latter. Take one or two hits in an opening instead of committing to a long combo in front of the boss.
Before entering
In a safe spot, check your guard, dodge and healing inputs and remaining supplies. Buttons depend on platform and control layout, so follow your game prompts. This draft draws on release-version boss information, including a PowerPyx guide for Carnage difficulty; do not treat its damage or timing as fixed for every difficulty.
Read the move, then respond
| What you see | First response |
|---|---|
| Axe swing | Block or avoid it first; practice timed parries once you know the rhythm. Counter briefly after the sequence, then reset your spacing. |
| Shoulder or running charge | Do not rush in; dodge sideways or make space early, then check for an opening after the charge. |
| Blue grab warning and talisman-hair attack | Watch the moment of contact and dodge; do not try to guard a grab normally. |
Start by learning the axe rhythm rather than attempting Issen every time. Once you can parry consistently, reduce enemy stamina to create a larger opening. If you take repeated hits, back off and reset. Before absorbing nearby souls, make sure another attack is not coming.
What changes in the enhanced encounter?
The release also has a separate Byakue (Enhanced) encounter; do not assume it is simply the next phase of the earlier fight. The cited high-difficulty guide reports that after its health falls, its axe can gain Malice, bringing a ground slam or hazardous pools. Leave the danger area, watch the landing point, then return to short counters. The actual behavior can vary by encounter, difficulty and version; follow the screen.
